Parked in lay-by near Phillpots farm and headed along road and up Polgear Beacon track. Before you get to the house we took a left up the track to a gate which as others mentioned has a sign saying no public access and also a cattle warning sign. We ignored all the signs as it is access land, walked through a herd of cattle and found a fairly easy way up by fence to trig. There is a way to avoid the barbed wire fence before the trig if you head to the rocky outcrop just past the trig. Not really any problems with gorse this way and not too boggy. As it was a quite foggy morning we didn't hang around for too long and descended the same way. Afterwards we bagged Troon FBM, Carn Brea monument and St. Agnes Beacon.

Trig is on open access land, however the approach is not. Spent a while driving round the block in the rain looking for a parking space as I'd read a number of GOML logs for this. Ended up at Stithians reservior (SW 71009 36998) and walked back along the road to the PROW (SW 70667 36780). I then followed the PROW and once the mast was in sight headed more or less for the mast. Tough wet, holey, jaggy ground, I was soaked. On the way back I found a 'path' down to the ruined cottage with the caravan which met up with a path that led back to the PROW (at SW 69974 36360). A much better route. Treated my self to a Wild Vibes Cafe Special at Stithians, recommend it, soup of the day and 1/2 a sarnie, yummy and really warmed me up!

Parked in lay-by near Phillpots Farm and walked along road to lane with a footpath which bends round to a small property, turning left leaving from the path to a gate to open access. A sign on the gate says no public access but it is mark on the O.S map as open access. You can see the trig from the gate so made a beeline straight towards it. Quiet easy going to start but a bit rough near the top.

This was the last of 13 trigs I visited today and I thought I might be frustrated, as I had been with a couple of earlier ones due to lambs, undergrowth or my own stupidity. I ignored the unpleasant warning signs on the gate and drove right up to the locked gate. Thinking the trig was inside the fenced mast compound, I squeezed in and sauntered casually up the track. Finding it outside and pushed for time I took a quick snap and ran off happy that I'd got away with it!

That's close enough!
