I joined the queue of standing traffic right alongside the concrete strip that covers the location so it was only a small bonus to be able to log this lost surface block.

Yes it's gone, lost to road works. 0.85m from road edge as per OS sketch, is currently centre of 1.5m concrete strip forming site access. This will itself be removed in due course no doubt.

Road marker still present but fading. Moss-covered block, NW side or road. Bolt protrudes from block. Also noted trig symbol on map (OS Explorer 260, Edition A, revised 1999) located on S bank of river, NE of Thrumpton. This would appear to correspond to an entry in the OS trig marks database "The Wharf. Station number T135 in secondary block SK73. Bolt Dest 4/84. OSGB36 451261.125 331644.563" Location is adjacent to footpath; investigated but nothing found.

Road side surface block - very easily located firstly due to the arrow on the road surface and secondly as it is not one of those that you have to dig for. views of Radcliffe power station next door, with its 8 huge cooling towers.

Found it eventually. I only had the OS skethch which was a bit misleading and I spent some time digging with the trusty trowel in the wrong place. When I moved to the other side of the gateway [no gate!] I found it easily without any vegetation cover. A passing farmer on a tractor confirmed that I was in the correct place! There is a yellow arrow on the road that helps a lot. the block was uncovered and the bolt had red paint splashed on it. the os diagram was not very helpful as the bit about a drain and another hedge is wrong and they're not in close to the site.
