Very boggy ascent from A68 border car park. Oddly enjoyable round trip. Not a great distance but took the best part of an hour and a half due to the bogs.

Up the Border fence from Carter Bar. No Japanese tourist, no piper, in fact no life-forms in the car-park but us, but then it's -2C and in cloud. Went up the English side of the fence, but returned on the Scottish side in the hope of avoiding the boggiest bits. Reverted to England at the gate at the start of the steep bit. At least the midges don't come in January.

Retrospective log. Visiting nearby geocache. Horrid weather - horizontal rain and soggy underfoot. I bumped into a couple of researchers who were mapping bogs - easy job here!

Lost count of the amount of times I have stopped here when taking the scenic route to Dundee and promised myself one day I would head up and find the nearest trigpoint, funny it should be now with the kids all back living south of the border, easy walk following the border fence all the way.

A good pillar in an isolated position. Commands fine views over the Cheviot Hills and the Southern Uplands. Also commands fine views back into England and north towards the Eildon Hills near Galashiels. Decided to visit this pillar whilst working on the nearby Vodafone radio tower just down the side of the hill.
