OS records this block destroyed May 1972. Plenty of other features at the top of this little hill: a non-OS cylindrical trig pillar, a charming memorial statue, flagstaff, views. And a cut benchmark on the bench seat a little below the top. Camera malfunction, no photos.

Although the block has been destroyed, there's still lots to see.

The site of the trig was on a headland on Ilfracombe sea front. My reckoning places it on the seaward slopes of the present day crest between the flagstaff on the summit and a memorial statue. I think the block may have been a victim of erosion. There is a brilliant view. The Welsh coast can be seen on the horizon across the Bristol Channel to the north. There is a fine view over the town to the south and there is a view of the North Devon Coastline to the west and to the east and the Exmoor Hills can be seen in the distance to the east.

Retro log. On my several visits to Ilfracombe between 2004-9 i have always climbed Capstone Point. Great view of the town and coast. There is a metalic statue called Kate, dated 2000. Photos from 2009 visit
