As easy as they come for a farmland pillar - we parked up on Wentedge Road at the low green metal bar gate, and nipped up the scrubby field edge to the pillar, which is clearly visible and just a few dozen metres from the road. The pillar is in decent, weathered condition but has a replacement cap. Very easy access here. Pillar #90 for my little trigbagger.

Not really noticeable as a hill - flat terrain, with the sounds of the A1 to accompany the visit. Seems well kept and in 1 piece.

Our second "A1" bag on the way down to Peterborough Beer Festival, which is easier to get to when travelling southbound on the A1 as there isn't a way onto the side road from the northbound carriageway. Anyhow, parked up at the entrance to the lane where the pillar is in clear sight, in fact it is visible when approached from the A1 direction. This was my 131st Trig, so I am now 2% of the way through my quest...... Into the car and onto the next one.....

Detour en-route home from Sandall Park parkrun (Doncaster). As others have said just a very short walk along track from (open) barrier, Decent views apart from the A1 traffic!

(873) Last one for the day, as it was becoming increasingly hot again. Wentedge Road not the widest, with fast moving traffic, so was glad of the field entrance pull-in. Pillar only a short distance from there. Plug non original. And if I've added up correctly, this is my 140th extant pillar. Pillar history: Built on the 15th of June 1936, at a cost of £1 7s 10d. Last maintained by the OS in April of 1982.

Fourth of 5 cycling trigs, and definitely feeling tired, facing long slog back to Sheffield but enjoying the trig bagging. Trig is easily accessed in good condition, and covered in flies (third time!). Views are extensive but low lying. A1 trundles noisily S of trig. Why is it callled 'Castle Hill' trig?

Originally planned to visit this one in February but as we pulled up the heavens opened and we headed back up the A1. The pillar stands on a verge between a field and a track and is close to the main road with extensive views all around. Parking on the track is good on dry days but for those who fear the arrival of angry agricultural folk a lay-by is available 500m up the road towards Kirk Smeaton. P.S. the trig is called Castle Hill after the iron age fort, now quarried away, which lay about 1km north-west of the pillar, ref. North Yorkshire CC, ny walks.

Riverside walk for 3 miles from Low Ackworth, road stretch to the top, trig easy and good. Scramble down the valley side straight into Brockadale for a better return to Wentbridge.

Arable landscape that's hardly inspiring. Easy access from nearby road - 50 yards into unfenced field, from a distance it looked chest high in wheat today but it's sat on the field boundry and a doddle to tig. Not far fron the noisy A1. Hiked from South Elmsall railway station with Sue taking in Upton Beacon (revisit for me) and heading for Moor Lane (see updated log) & eventually Ponte'. No cars, on foot.
