This is a very easy trig to log. We'd passed it many times but wasn't sure where to park. We ran up the hill, even after a long walk during the day. Beautiful location. Our second motte and bailey of the day.

A lovely spot on the top of an old castle mound. The gate to the south did not have a 'Private' notice, so I used that. The pi8llar has its original plug with slightly indented letters. No paint. S sighthole open, others closed. The concrete base has been exposed about 12" all round. Fine views to the N, even on a rather murky day.

The pillar is sited on top of a grassy motte. The foundations of the pillar have been exposed by up to a foot; it has a metal cap with indented lettering and has FB S5899. Fine view to the northwest to Birts Hill and beyond. The Green Hill mast can be seen to the west and the multiple masts of Rampisham Hill are to the south. The hill of Melbury Park rises up on the other side of a pleasant valley to the east. A post is all that remains of the cross.
