While the Whipsnade lion was hiding in the misty haze, the views were still fabulous from the top and the summit earthworks and quarry remnants give the hill character. Walked up from the hidden away Totternhoe Knolls Car Park which actually makes this top (though not quite to the summit pillar) potentially wheelchair accessible. Noted you could walk up from the pub below which is worth another point.

Bagged as YSM239 Castle Mound. We had a look for the steps mentioned in a previous log but couldn't find them so parked on the main road and followed the right of way. A lovely walk up the chalk hills on a lovely sunny day. Couldn't find the one cache we looked for on the way up and didn't bother to look for any of the others, we were both getting tired by now and still a few more trigs on the list!

Lovely trigpoint on the site of Totternhoe Castle's remaining earthworks standing at 526ft. Extensive views, Whipsnade lion, Chiltern Hills, Leighton Buzzard, Vale of Aylesbury, Dunstable Downs. The pillar itself does have a piece missing at the top which exposes one spider arm, there is no cap or plug but otherwise seems to stand and look fine. Nice spot, this is an SSSI and looked after by the NT. Worth a visit from the M1, easy and there's a car park signposted Totternoe Knolls which you should look out for in Totternhoe.

Short walk up from minor road to S. Friendly wooden steps (150 of them) have been installed otherwise would be v slippery. Trig located at top of Totternhoe Castle, constructed 11thC with just earthworks remaining - area is a SSSI. Pillar has some badly chipped top edges with end of one spider arm exposed. Top cap missing, no plug; LHD side sight hole open; 1 of the top loops broken, the other 2 have been flattened. Extensive panoramic views make up for it though.

Somewhat surprisingly, failed to find the CP car park (!), so parked in the dead end road to the N, and walked round to, and up from the bridle way. S s/hole and centre open, and is rather chipped on one top edge, but not otherwise damaged. Has panoramic views of Bedfordshire, including Ivinghoe Beacon, and the Whipsnade white lion chalk carving, today deserted so a wonderful place.

The trig has recently had a new coat of white paint. I agree. A smashing little hill. Parked on the roadside not far from the pub and took a path up that petered out to nothing and so ended up ding a bit of thrashing through the undergrowth. Got to a path and then it was easy. Bagged the trig then a cache and came down on a main path.

This one was a bit of an expedition. A bus into town, another to Dunstable and then a walk up West Street to the Icknield Way. From there it was a very pleasant walk along the ridge and around the edge of the old quarry to the trig point. The centre plug is missing and there are a few large chips on the top edge but apart from that, itís in reasonably good condition. Pity about the graffiti but thatís modern youth for ya! The views were good on a bright, sunny day. From there it was a short, downhill walk to the Cross Keys for a couple of pints before catching the bus back to Luton from just across the road.
