Circular walk from Horton. Busy day back in the village but no takers for my path, but the track to Penyghent will be heaving! Fine views if a little misty but great walking underfoot. At the TP studied the map and was working out another one for another day - Cosh Outside. Would I come this way? Possibly not - via Foxup more likely. Also looked for 20+ benchmarks on route.

(343) I set out from Beckermonds on a breezy, overcast day on a long undulating loop to bag Low Green Field Lings, Cave Hill and Cosh Outside. The walk to Cave Hill was lovely, through the plantation and the old quarry, through the grassy fellsides and then a sheep pasture as the small dome of the hill appeared. The pillar sits a fair way further along than expected but commands superb views over to Ingleborough, Whernside and the Ribblehead Viaduct. The trig is in excellent, weathered condition with a full set of metalwork and is well worth a visit. I returned back down the hill and then headed along the Pennine Way towards Cosh Outside, where a heretofore pleasant walk would take a turn for the worse...

This looked an easy bag on the map, so we thought it wouldn't be too bad on a hot day. We parked at Ribblehead by the FP that cuts the junction. Walked up the road to pick up the second FP at Ribble Head House to connect with the Ribble Way. Continued to pick up 3 Peaks path, then connect with Pennine Way for a short distance before climbing Cave Hill. Fine Views all around. Returned by same route, except stayed on 3 Peaks path until virtually at junction before cutting off for car. We were wrong about it being an easy bag.........Much needed Beer in The Station afterwards.

OS archive has FB No. S5327 in error. SITE VISIT: Three trig circuit starting and finishing near High Green Field. Probably best to park outside (derelict) Far Barn at SD835796. There is no suitable parking offered any further up this public road, and doing so will result in a politely worded note attached to windscreen. Approached from southeast via SD81777 and following mapped tracks after bagging Cosh Outside. Access land used for grazing. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces SSW, ~193°. All four horizontal sighting holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360° open outlook. Continued to Low Green Field Lings. Returned to car to find handwritten note affixed informing that this meadow is private, of SSSI status, and not to park there again.
