From Mynydd Marion pillar to east, on "North Wales Path" and FP through fields from valley. Pleasant young farmer replanting hedgerow on boundary of pillar field was happy to allow visit. Gate on east side of field. He commented that his neighbour had painted the pillar

Visited the pillar doing a circular walk above Colwyn Bay. Approached via a PRoW and luckily a young farmer (+ 2 dogs) who owned the land was working on planting a new hedge and was more than happy for us to visit. Companion had a bit of "a man to man talk" to butter him up. Pillar is in good hands and was painted white a while back. The two today (we won't mention the aborted one) are gifted to nearing the check out on the conveyor belt called life....meaning getting old and petrol prices are more important than a scenic route.

On the way back from stormy Wales. A lovely treat in the summer meadow, just escaping from dreary Colwyn Bay. The Orme, Irish Sea and distant Clywydian a lovely bolt hole (no pun intended) yet again. Little gap in fencing beware of getting snagged though.

Parked on Groes Road. Climbed over a gate, and then climbed over a barbed wire fence into the field in which the pillar is situated. Also needed to negotiate an electric fence on the way up to the pillar. 2 of 10 today in and around Rhyl, Prestatyn, and Colwyn Bay

Sought permission from Fron Farm first, then up the hill and parked opposite Cefn-Y-Ffynnon farm drive. Access to the field is via the turquoise gate further down the drive. Short walk across a sheep field to the pillar. Good views, Little Ormes Head pillar could be seen on our visit.

Pre-breakfast leisurely stroll to reach this one. Spotted it across a snow filled field, clambered over two barbed wire fences, and scattered a couple of lovable lambs as I approached the pillar. Fine views across Colwyn Bay, the sea looking grey & wintry. An hour's walk there & back from Colwyn Bay.

The entrance to the public RoW is wide enough to park a car without blocking access, then it’s a short walk along the path to the field gate. I climbed over the gate and walked back along the hedgerow until I was roughly south of the pillar, then walked up the field. This kept me pretty much out of sight of the farm house. I find avoiding any confrontation is easier than trying to explain what you’re doing! The pillar is in good condition with all its metalwork intact. The soil around the base is gradually being eroded by livestock that obviously use the pillar as a ‘rubbing post’ as evidenced by the polished flush bracket. The views are ok but mostly blocked by trees and hedges. West is probably the best aspect.

Lost my notes on this one until today! Came here to watch Lincoln beat the locals in the FA Vase and had time to pop up here to look for the nearby geocache and then log the trig point. Lovely view from here, in spite of all the wind farms out at sea! The plug is intact with deeply indented letters. It's in a pasture and is obvious ly an animal gathering point. The concrete base is exposed about 4" all round and there are a few traces of paint. In a pasture field easily accessed over a gate from the footpath to the E. Nice spot! Pity the geocache had gone missing.....

I came up from Old Colwyn on the right of way beside the football ground and then quickly over the fence beside the farm to inspect the pillar. I'd gone past here several times before on circular walks but had never realised what a great view there was of Rhos-on-sea and over to the Little Orme. I jumped back over the fence much the wiser and headed onwards and upwards towards Pen Marian Mountain trig pillar.

The pillar stands on the side of a grass field on a hill to the south of Colwyn Bay. The field was entered over a gate from the footpath along the track to the south. The trig has a metal cap with deep lettering and FB S7332. The view north from the pillar takes in the town, the bay and the Little Orme. Rolling hills can be seen to the west and Moelfre Isaf to the south.

Metal plug [indented letters]. Private. Cefn-y-ffynnon Farm. Sheep pasture. Easiest access is via gate from public footpath to farm on south side. Stealthier access from lane [Groes Road], but means negotiating barbed wire.
