Sad to report, I confirm it has gone. The north-south field boundary has been obliterated, ploughed over and planted with crops. The farmer has presumably taken the opportunity to remove the pillar. There are a couple of suspicious areas of bare earth on the highest point, but no sign of any stonework, so a thorough job has been done.

This was, shall we say, a very 'intesting' visit. Having been warned of gunshots by a previous logger on here (2 logs before this one), we approached this one with caution. We travelled on the B4494 NNW-bound towards Wantage and parked at the covered reservoir to the SW of the trig station. We walked round to the left of the covered reservoir (as you look at it from the roadside) to the back of it where we found a spent shotgun cartridge lying on the ground. Alarm bells were ringing in our heads. We carried on to the back of Chain Hill Cottage. Due to the crops growing in the field, we could not see the trig station, even after repeatedly scanning the horizon with binoculars. We then wandered around trying to find a way through the crops but there was no path through the crops. We were not prepared to walk through the crops if there was no path. Then we heard two gunshots. We spotted (through binoculars) a lone white figure in the distance in the SE direction, so we got the hell out of there sharpish. We did not want to get shot. Resigned to logging this one as "couldn't find it" and "inaccessible", we left the area. But we decided to approach it from another direction. We drove round to Lark Hill (the road runs NS) and to the covered reservoir to the E of the trig station. The field here was barren & dry, so we walked across it to the trig station. Trig was in good condition but centre cap was missing. Took a few quick pics and we got the hell out of there. For future visitors: I think which direction you approach this one will depend on the time of year and the crops.

Parked to W of trig by covered reservoir on B4494, then 275m across arable farmland. Trig is on an open field boundary. Pillar in good condition but cap missing, no plug; all 4 sight holes open. 360deg views, extensive to N & S, but uninspiring.

Walked across the muddy field from the reservoir just as several loud rifle shots rang out from close by (from the woodland alongside the reservoir.) Most disconcerting! This was my second trigpoint gained under gunfire - such a dangerous occupation!
