Awkward one. Accessed via the PRoW to the west of the pillar. There's a way into the trig field at the NW corner. Then head for the telegraph pole beyond the mini lake. Not a memorable one.

Parked on Chance Hall Lane opposite Walkers Lane. Walked down Walkers Lane for around half a mile, whereupon you reach Higher Smallwood farm. Walkers Lane ends at this point, and becomes a public footpath.Walked down the footpath, and carried on for quarter of a mile. Takes you through a gate, and over a stile. A few hundred yards beyond the stile, there is a kind of climbing frame in the hedge to the left. Climbed over the climbing frame, and that takes you into the field where the pillar is. It is easily located by the fact that it is next to a telegraph pole. The pillar has been moved from its original location, but remains in good condition.

Water logged fields and plenty of mud on the boots to get to this one in February. Only when we were logging the Grid Ref did we note that something did not add up. Quick read of previous logs and we note its managed to move a good few metres in an easterly direction. oh well its got a mate in the form of a telegraph pole now. All metal work intact and still stood upright thankfully.

Parked at entrance to Higher Smallwood Farm and walked up the drive and path. I climbed over two barbed wire fences by a tree to access the field. Head for the pylon and there she lies. Note, if parking as I did, park well into the edge as for some reason there were a number of bin lorries going up and down the track today. The main track is driveable to cut down the walking but you may meet a lorry!

Used field access at SJ 82628 59467 and made my way up thru' fields which were bounded by electric fencing. In field directly east of trig I came upon two young men erecting the fencing. I asked permission to look for the trig (which they had no knowledge of) and it was given with no challenge as to why I was wandering about in the field. The trig is still very close to its original position, lying by the telegraph pole.

She's still there, but as suggested since early 2011, she's been knocked over and dragged about 25 yards. She used to sit on the fence or hedgeline shown on the 1:25000 map, but that's been removed, and the trig shifted, presumably at the same time.

There it is - under one of the telegraph poles.

The cretin of a farmer has obviously uprooted this trig as it was in his way but since it has been "in the way" for the best part of 80 years I wonder why now is the time for its demise. At least the FB is still visible. The trig has been dragged next to a telegraph pole where the farmer cannot farm. Is it normal to be upset/annoyed about a lump of concrete laying on its side? What would the OS have to say about this?
