Trig is at the top of a fenced-off knoll, easily visible from the Ridgeway. Path leads straight to the knoll from the road, and access is through a farm gate. Good views.

Parked at a layby (it had a bin!) on the minor road to the SW of the trig station (SU236820). We approached the minor road from the N at the junction of Hatchet Hill & White Hill and we also left the same way, i.e. we did not drive on the Ridgeway, although that is possible. The Ridgeway is a gravel track with some deep ruts, so we didn't fancy driving our BMW through it! Anyway, back to the trig station: from the layby it's a simple 2 minute walk up the hill to the trig station. Great views from the trig, we could also see our car parked at the layby, which was an added bonus. Trig was in very good condition, centre cap missing with rubbish pushed down the centre tube. It's such a shame that humans can't go anywhere on this Earth without littering it with rubbish. Around this trig were 2 discarded empty Coke cans, 1 beer can and drugs paraphenalia.

Pleasant walk along the Ridgeway path, from the minor road to the E of the trig, on a cold and frosty morning. Short trespass along a field boundary (grass strip) to access the fenced in hill where the trig is sited. Pillar is slightly damaged, there is a small chip off one of the top corners and the plug is missing, been replaced with asphalt but most of that is now also missing. All site holes open. Very good views: N over Swindon, W to Barbury Castle on the northern edge of the Marlborough Downs, and East along the southern edge of the Berkshire Downs. Constant noise from the M4 was a nuisance.

It stands on a small grassy hill on the edge of the North Wessex Downs; the pillar has FB S2435 and the remains of a broken or burnt asphalt plug; the concrete has some small surface chips and cracks and there is some resinous residue on top of the pillar. The hill is access land and was reached by the Ridgeway and a public road from the car park to the southwest. It offers wide views in all directions: south are a number of downland ridges; to the north it looks over Swindon and the Vale of White Horse into a distant hazy blue horizon; to the northeast and southwest stretch the foot hills of the downs. Ashdown House can be seen to the east; a neighbouring hilltop to the southeast appeared to have a crop circle on its summit and the Ridgeway was lined with numerous blue flowers of what I think are Meadow Crane’s Bill.
