Inquisitive cattle throughout the whole visit. Fortunately non were loitering around this pillar. Lots of Bracken surround this trig. Spotted a bird perched on its top. Located adjacent to a shallow hollow this trig commands fabulous views north to the climbing crags of Bowden Doors.Ventured another 200m northwest and explored the settlement which is much bigger than I expected.

Reached from the bend in the minor road due east of the trig point - it meant avoidiing a field of cows. The hill fort settlement is very obvious but completely failed to find any cup and ring marked stones :-( The views west to the Cheviot are somewhat obscurred by the plantation but the views south west and north are extensive. It has to be said that Chatton Park Hill is rather overshadowed by Ross Castle to the south east!

Parked and walked up from nearby road. Not access land, but a notice by the road explains that public access is allowed in view of the hill's archaeological importance. The two best panels of prehistoric rock art (among the finest in Britain and probably carved around 1500BC ) are on a rock outcrop south of the trig at NU 07568 29053 and on the floor of an overhanging rock shelter NE of the trig at NU 07464 29799. Both have multiple cup-and-ring carvings, patterns of cup-marks, and grooves. See the English Rock Art website: http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/, search for "chatton 1a" and "ketley crag rock shelter". As a bonus there is a small Iron Age hillfort (dating from around 200BC) just NW of the trig with impressive defensive banks and traces of round-houses still visible inside it.

Flush bracket faces southeast, ~111. Vented through NE sight hole. Open outlook in all directions except for a 60 portion centred on WNW which is lost to tree blockage.
