Bagged as YSM148 Chestnuts Inclosure. First real rain of our trip at this one. Walked up the tracks listening to the birdsong and then found the pillar. Lovely woodland walk. Also found the cache, first ammo can seen in a while!

Pillar moss covered, Pleasent walk up from the east, view nil as deep in the trees, the GPS no doubt affected by the forest.

Battered my way through ferns whist taking a direct route to pillar. Sadly no views but only to be expected. Took easier descent down as I followed muddy footpaths.

Found as YOSM 148. Easy walk up to the TP which was quite mossy. Found the nearby geocache exposed so rehid.

On a round of Gloucestershire tumps. Approached from WNW on what I took to be permissive paths. Pillar easy to spot this time of year but has a mossy coat. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; LHD side sight hole open. In woodland, no views.

Hard to get to as very overgrown but there is a faint path. Need long trusers and a long sleeved top to fight your way through it and views not spectacular.

Had to carry the dog over the brambles to get him to the top of the trig but it was worth it. Lovely walk through the woods with distant views of the river Severn through the trees.

Good parking directly east of trig, by public phone/post box. Was surprised at the last two logs as it looked like someone had beaten a path to the trig. A bit of scrambling, but not too bad. Some nice views (not from trig) of the Severn now that the leaves are falling.

Gave up 20m form the trig with the nettles and brambles getting too much. It is however visible now. the key is to leave the main path heading west along the natural break shown on the latest explorer map then turn right after about 30 paces. Parking isnt brilliant either but there are some good sized sweet chestnuts about at the moment

Parked at the end of the Forestry Commission road west of the hill and walked up. Quite an easy climb but a bit muddy in places. T/P is in good condition but a bit on the 'grubby' side. All metalwork is in place, including the cap. Not too much in the way of views from the T/P as there is too much woodland in the way but the River Severn is visible through the trees.

We approached from the east and found it quite easily (someone had recently beaten a track to it). Plug with heavily indented lettering.

Pillar has some moss and lichen but is generally good, if only the trees were cleared a great view of the severn would be had. logged coords after 30 seconds of averaging on Magellan Sportrak Color. 1 meter difference is fine by me!

In the forest but not oppressive since there has been much thinning and many of the trees are broadleaf. Came straight past here in the 1987 British Orienteering Championships.
