I too followed the track to enter the field by means of a gate. Nothing really to add to previous visit reports other than to confirm that it is still there and in good condition.

The pillar is sited on the edge of a hill top field of 18 inch grass. It has a metal cap with shallow letters and has FB S5894; its foundations are exposed by about 8 inches on one side. The field was reached from West Chinnock by way of a track overgrown with nettles and thistles that would be impassable to someone wearing shorts. The view extends westward beyond Merriott to Combe Beacon in the distance. Hills are on the far horizon to the north and west. Nearer to the north is Balham Hill continuing to Chiselborough and Coker Hill in the east. Rampisham Transmitters are in the distance to the south east.

We approached this from the village of West Chinnock via Long Lane, a very overgrown track which is full of nettles and brambles. After the track turns the first corner look for a gate to the south which gives access to the pasture and head across the fields. Much easier and the route I took back. Fields full of nosy heifers who hadn't seen a trigpoint spotter before and were very curious. Good views west. Plug with indented lettering.
