Followed BW across the farmers field. He might have weed killed the path but it has been ploughed so was very bumpy. Heard very big bangs so the Army must be doing tank excises. Saw smoke in distance.

Bonus trig not on the list but as we were passing it would have been very stupid not to bag it! Had to venture into the ouchies to get a photo of the flush bracket!

Walked over from Codford Circle, passing the very interesting (but smelly) AD biogas plant at E Codford Down en route. First musical trig I have found - top, and all s/holes (except W) are open to varying degrees; you can play a tune by hitting the open top at varying intensities with an OS map (presumably the centre tube is clear and therefore acts as a wind instrument). Oh, such childish pleasures!

Access from west private. However, the track was tarmac to junction by small wood, from where it would be a very short stroll to the trig. From there, the BW is also tarmac and driveable. The buildings are a farm (East Codford Farm) but there is no house on site and there is a visitors car park.Again the tarmac continues, so access possible also from SW

A keen wind up on the downs today, but the birds didn't seem to mind - plenty of skylarks, yellowhammers, buzzards and peewits in evidence, but again no sign of the great bustard! The pillar in good condition, open cap.

Convenient pull-in at the crest of the hill on the B390 Shrewton Road. Then a byway 350m SE before turning right onto a footpath for approx 1km to the trig. Pillar is in good condition other than cap missing and no plug; 1 sight hole open, beneath the FB, another sealed and 2 partially sealed. Wide, sprawling rural downland views.

Parked north of Codford St Mary hoping to take in Codford Circle on the way here but 'Private' signs and a tractor working in a nearby field meant I decided to leave it to a quieter time. Due to poor map reading I started off looking the wrong side of the track. Eventually spotted it lurking in trig-high weeds just the wrong side of a barbed wire fence. Once the correct side I had to trample down the weeds to get the FB number. Onward to Quebec and Upton Lovell FBM.

We parked on the B390 west of Chitterne where the bridle path begins (a bit difficult to get off the road). We followed the track to the trig trying not to breathe in the mist from an agricultural sprayer which was dosiung the fields with some sort of highly toxic (probably) liquid. The trig is just north of the fence with the FB facing north. Plug missing.
