Approached from Marsh along twisty narrow and steep lane. Pulled over on side of road where ground had levelled out to south west of farm buildings. Looked over gate into field to south west and spotted pillar about two hundred and fifty metres away. Across grassy field, probably cattle pasture, none there at the time. Fairly good all round farmland views. Cap plugged. Just into a corner of Devon.

Great to visit a nearby trig that our local Trig experts "Pat 27" has not logged as yet- it wont be long! Made a nice circular walk of this one around the local footpaths - checked out an old (ex) pub, and had some great views. The dogs loved it.

The pillar stands near the edge of a dirt field in the Blackdown Hills to the west of Chard. The foundations are exposed by about 15 inches and the pillar is leaning slightly. It has an asphalt plug and FB S3742. The field was crossed from the gateway on the narrow lane to the north. From the pillar there was a hazy view of the tops of the surrounding rounded hill tops. Brown Down Wood is on a nearby hill top to the north.

Sorry, but my healthly regard (fear) of cows and the extremely wet condition of the field they (and the trig) were in, prevented me from actually bagging this one properly. Maybe next summer.

We just managed to park in the gateway to the east of the trig. It's nice to find a pillar that's not buried deep in the hedge on a massive plinth. Empty cow pasture. Tarmac plug.

The OS Landranger spells the nearest farm as 'Clifthayne', so someone's got it wrong! Anyway, some reasonably good views of Devon & Somerset from nearby but the TP is on a bit of a plateau (in a cow field). A choice of nearby gates to park in. Nearest pub seems to be in Marsh but the A303 was closed so I couldn't get there.
