(1748) Called in at No 13 Trent Grove, but they no longer own or have access to the land. It's been bought and is in the process of being developed by new owners who live somewhere on Homely Lane. Whether this will affect the pillar, I don't know. Got a closer view of it from walking across the green space at the top of Avon Close. Seen through the fence only, but it's close enough to it. Half buried still, so no change there, with some junk metal now propped up against it. Centre plug non original. FB is S4159. Pillar history: Built on the 21st of July 1947, at a cost of £6 13s 3d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1983.

The gentleman could not have been more helpful and pointed us in the direction of the garden gate. All CJO's handiwork still intact including the slug family discovered by Farther Ted. We struggled to photograph the FB and the gentleman at No 13 brought us a torch to make things easier. This pillar is only about 15 minutes' walk from home and I have visited and photographed it several times in the past. It was always easily accessible, although half-buried by re-landscaping of the hilltop. A few years ago I found it surrounded by a 7ft high chain-link fence with a padlocked gate. I re-visited it again today (27/08/2006) and made the effort to climb the gate - a bit strenuous at my age but at least there are no spikes on top of it. The trench that I dug some years ago to get at the FB had been filled in but I re-excavated it and got a set of new images. The plastic top cap that I fitted in 1999 is still there. It has been attacked with something sharp but not breached. Apart from that, the pillar itself appears to be in good condition.
