Having parked on Holmley Lane and been shown to the trig via the steep steps by a local resident - who claimed that the future of the trig maybe in doubt as a planning application was being sought! We took the pic through the fence and decided to head around to Trent Grove and seek permission at No13. The gentleman could not have been more helpful and pointed us in the direction of the garden gate. All CJO's handiwork still intact including the slug family discovered by Farther Ted. We struggled to photograph the FB and the gentleman at No 13 brought us a torch to make things easier. Covering bricks replaced we returned the torch and thanked the owner who then very kindly supplied us with a paper copy of Trigpointing UK Coal Aston log page.

I asked at the house and got permission to go into the garden. The brickwork by CJO was still in place but I hadn't got any tools to remove them so had to use my paws. Ten minutes later I got them cleared and found the FB and a family of slugs living in the crevice in the brick. Replaced brickwork after photographing and some time later managed to wash my hands. Nice experience. Thanks CJO for the hard work.

As earlier trigs mention, found this one behind the fence half buried. The private compound that it is in is a little overgrown this time of year, and with it being half-buried, it is not too easy to see. As also mentioned, without gaining access to the trig area, it is impossible to see the FB or get a true GPS fix. The views towards the North are very good. 1/2 for the evening following a party in Dronfield.

This pillar is only about 15 minutes' walk from home and I have visited and photographed it several times in the past. It was always easily accessible, although half-buried by re-landscaping of the hilltop. A few years ago I found it surrounded by a 7ft high chain-link fence with a padlocked gate. I re-visited it again today (27/08/2006) and made the effort to climb the gate - a bit strenuous at my age but at least there are no spikes on top of it. The trench that I dug some years ago to get at the FB had been filled in but I re-excavated it and got a set of new images. The plastic top cap that I fitted in 1999 is still there. It has been attacked with something sharp but not breached. Apart from that, the pillar itself appears to be in good condition.

This is the pillar buried to somewhere above FB height
This is the pillar after excavation to reveal the FB.
This is my best photo of the FB.
This is the spider with plastic top cap still in situ after 7 years.
