A long hike from Gillingshall Nature Reserve via Kilconquhar. From the A917 a road has been bulldozed along the side of the fence (signposted 'Catchpenny, Private Road'), the pillar is easily reached on the other side amidst the undergrowth on the edge of a wheat field.

Initially tried to get access to the coastal path from the farm shop but a guy painting the building told us we'd need to go down the road towards the houses to get onto the path. Once on the path we could see a digger in the distance and as we approached we could see it was on the route to the pillar! Once up off the path there were signs saying 'no admittance, building site', looks like a caravan park being built to us. After begging Mr TJR he went over to the digger driver to ask if we could visit the trig and that we would be careful etc etc. However on the way to the trig we met 'the boss' who was none to happy about us being on site but we proceeded anyway and the trig was soon bagged.

Could see this one from the Fife Coastal Path set on a boundary between two fields. Walked up from the shoreline and crossed the long closed railway - there remain some well built handsome stone railway bridges hereabouts. Fine walk from Elie taking in two ruined castles, a folly, a lighthouse, St Monans Church, two trigpoints and that railway line.

I was dropped off at the roadside by friends and followed the the very narrow edge of the recently ploughed field. A nice spot but views rather spoilt by mist today. I then walked back to rejoin the others at Ardross farm shop, where there is a non-pillar flush bracket G2488.

Followed the Fife Coastal Trail all the way from Elie, finding (or not finding) a good few caches along the way. Tried being clever on the way back and followed the old railway bed for a bit, but this peters out into pasture after a bit, as I'd have known if I'd bothered to check the map.
