Parked up along the country land and went through the gate, past the pillar, to knock on the door and ask permission. Friendly chap said no bother so returned for photos. Fortunately the excavation work carried out by Waggers49 held up and there were only a few blades of grass and a couple of leaves to move for clear view of FB number. A fairly easy, if unspectacular, bag not far off the A1.

A joint visit with Carole. This one is in the garden of a bungalow at the side of the A43 with a convenient lane to park in to the north-east. Tried to obtain permission from the householder but no one seemed to be at home. The pillar is in the middle of a lawned area but has a circular flower bed round it. Unfortunately the earth of the bed has been raised to obscure the flush bracket. In excellent condition and still retains an original metal indented lettered plug. The property is currently up for sale should anyone want to have a home with a pillar this could be tailor made for you!

Yet another slight diversion from one of our regular trips Kent - Yorkshire. Pulled into Slate Drift off the busy A43 and walked back. Took one shot from road then decided to try our luck and knock at door of bungalow. Mr. Tarry ( change the vowel and we would share the same surname) greeted us at the door and to our surprise, not only gave permission but volunteered to unearth the flush bracket for us ! We had a long chat about trig pillars and local building material etc. he told us that someone from Leeds had been there recently to inspect the pillar. We would like to thank Mr. Tarry for his friendliness and we wish him and his family all the best for their future in New Zealand.
