Parked beside church and walked to end of dead end road. Gate into field below hill can be found opposite the garages to the left... however, I made a complete pig's ear of finding the actual path to the summit, and ended up in a maze of dead ferns and brambles! Two well-defined paths lead to the summit; the last few metres to the top are steep from any direction you choose to approach. Pillar encircled by trees and floodlights (and a flagpole), which give it a lovely bit of privacy, but also means the views are from the edges of the summit, not from the trig itself.

A slight diversion of the A35 heading west. Hill and flagpole on top visible from the road. Parked by in the village of Symondsbury. Accessed hill from north east side, up the lane at end of the village, over wire fence into field, looks well used although not signed as a path. Across field to trees then picked a way through the brown ferns and brambles. Steep ascent. Approaching the summit could make out a number of people at the top. Wondered if I was intruding on a private group and I was about to be challenged. Seems they were just various groups of walkers. Lovely spot. FB defaced sadly. Spider and cap in place. Views obscured by circle of pine trees. Good views all around from outside the circle. Looks like it might be illuminated at nighttime. Went back the same way although probably easier paths judging by the people up there, there was even a pram at the top.
