Parked at New Cwmceste Farm, walked over to the pillar on Gwaunceste Hill first then onto here. This pillar found standing in a small moat in a poor state with a fair bit of frost damage to the upper third: a hair fracture runs around the pillar just above the FB; much of the top screed missing and showing signs of a previous attempt to repair it; one end of a spider arm exposed. The original top cap has been retained, with indented lettering; all sight holes open. Extensive all-round views. Duff Gordon family (Gordon's Gin) own these moors and intention is to re-introduce grouse, possible access issues in the future?

Continued on from Gwaunceste. Initial going is rough but there is a track that drops down to the N of the triple stream that takes alot of the effort out. Then it is just tracks all the way some unmarked on the map to the top. Return on a number of different bridleways with at least three route options to near the forest inn just before the heavy showers set in. Some damage to the top and small lumps out of one side with high level cracks all over the place. Nothing serious enough to warrent the next step down the chain though
