Up to the hill summit first, parked near the rough cp/boat launch area, down the lane to the lovely metal shed then a quick gasp up. Vanesta a welcome sight behind me from the hill top. After all the strange hills of Skye this lumpen igneous mass is a real delight. Tenant farmer we spoke to at the bottom advises ascent in this way will get blocked soon because of a new forestry plantation. As he says you're not going to put a tree on the table to feed people, lovely spot for now.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 10th May 1958 costing 11.19s.5d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NG80/DM/T9 by distomat survey within the Fort William block during 1959. Levelled for height also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in June 1978. SITE VISIT: Approached from SSE. Room for one car on tar strip outside old barn at NG891279, SE side of unclassified road. Through gate opposite, straight up hill keeping left of fence. Rough steep climb through bracken and heather, minor rock scrambling involved. Beinn Conchra. Vanessa in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~255. Vented through three sight holes, NW face still plugged, collapsing wooden innards obstruct bolt. Full 360 panoramic view with higher tops in cloud. Continued to main summit. Decending route similar to ascent with careful negotiation of sheer drops in undergrowth.

Cylindrical trig, concrete plug, 3 sight holes open. Vgc. Fantastic view point - looking down on Dornie and Eilean Donan castle, and with higher hills all around. Stiff climb up from the loch side.
