Route planning spontaneous and done 'on the hoof' - set off up the Dales Way intent to do this pillar but diverted S along the DW past the Conistone Pie then NE through Mossdale to Sandy Gate; SE along fenceline until due E of Meugher then 'off piste' to bag that pillar. then returned W via track by Mossdale Shooting Lodge to the old mine workings and thence to Conistone Moor TP. Superb location! Back to start to complete a 6 hour walk of 14.25 miles. Weather fabulous, views terrific throughout the day.

Visited during a crack 13.4 mile walk from Grassington, started a bit misty, but the sun eventually broke through. A superb hike up to Capplestone Gate to bag the trig, before we dropped down to the wonderful Conistone Dib and back via the Pie and Dales Way.

Walked up from Conistone via the brilliant Dib and then the delightful Conistone Turf Road. Overcast day which nullified some of the views.Took time to remember the cavers who died in 1967 some 2.5 km over the moor to the east. Next up: Great Whernside via Sweet Hill.

September Camp Day 2 of 3. Walked from Kettlewell. Took the higher route over Langcliffe which follows a wall with Great Whernside's slopes to the E. Trig has missing plug and is showing signs of its age but has the most marvellous views of Wharfedale and beyond. Quiet and delightful. Returned via Conistone Pie and the Dales Way. 10 miles.

3rd pillar of day having visited Buckden Pike and Meugher earlier on a circular walk from Kettlewell. While not on the hilltop, it is sited to give a wide view. With time in hand I sat too long and got cold, which was only rectified with a warm shower back at the YHA .

HISTORY: Pillar completed 12th September 1949 costing £17.1s.10d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD96/T5 in 1951. Levelled for height also in 1951. Last maintained by the OS in May 1975. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked in Conistone village, west side of road to south of junction of roads at SD981674. Follow mapped track NE out of village or go (east) up through Dib to SD917686, then footpath NE to top. Grazing moor on access land. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces SW, ~230°. Vented though NW sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view. Continued to Meugher.

took the well defined path and ladder stiles from kettlewell,a beautiful walk accompanied by many lapwings and the odd curlew.on arrival at the summit,i had to cross the ladder stile to gain access to the pillar as it was on the other side of a six foot wall.incredible views once again,never saw a sole,perfect.

Parked up in layby on Conistone Lane, just to the North of Scot Gate Lane. Long, steep walk up Scot Gate Lane and followed good grassy footpaths up to trig. Great spot with spectacular views all around. Very hot day so glad to head back down into Conistone.

Last trig of the day for me and Rocky ! today we set off from Kettlewell then walked to Great Whernside then Meugher then to here and back to Kettlewell 14 miles !

Walked up here from Grassington (getting mixed up in the Wharfedale Half-marathon along the Dales Way). Beautiful sunny day and a route that I think shows off the Dales at their best, orchids and cowslips beside the path, good distant views, grassy fellside and limestone pavement, with some grit moorland for the last 100m to the trig.

#100 (yay!)Alt 512m. Bagged while doing a 7.3 mile hike from Conistone up thru the Dib to Conistone Moor, then back along the Dales Way past Conistone Pie. The winds up at the pillar were estimated at 70 mph. It was very difficult to stand up, let alone take photos. I was completely unable to take any of my usual long distance shots.

The Trig - Elev 512 m Trig could use a lick of paint. Fab views looking across Kilnsey High Moor in back, with Kilnsey Crag in the Wharfe Valley below

Walked in from the New Pasture trig, over some cracking limestone pastures and moorland. Great location for the pillar, right on the edge of a limestone crag, expansive views west and south with Wharfedale to the north. Pillar in mostly good condition, although plug is missing and debris stuffed down the hole. Back to Grassington along possibly the nicest section of the Dales Way.

Capplestone Gate on Conistone Moor. Lovely views in most directions. Todays trig marks the end of a period of serious 'trigging' as a 5 month self imposed period of unemployment ends tomorrow. 95 entries (1 rivet, 2 missing pillars, 2 unreachables & 89 pillars (one dual entry)) and over 600 miles on foot (not just trigging). Unfortunately you do have to keep the wolf from the door but it's been great while it lasted - roll on the weekend!!
