Nightmare to find as it's buried in high gorse and nettles. If you do go looking for it and find a wall beyond the gorse, drop down to the other side and walk alongside the wall. It's just 3 or 4 feet inside the wall but inaccessible from the other side.

Bus out to Milltimber from Aberdeen. Walked up Contlaw Road to NJ844027. The field is currently ploughed so my feet had doubled in weight by the time I reached the top end of the field just to the west of the pillar . Rather than fight through the gorse I went over the wall to and sqeezed along between the wall and the fence 'til I reached the pillar. Clearly others had gone this way and there was a dip in the wall so asy to cross. Having had good views of snow covered Clachnaben, Mt Battock and Mt Keen as I walked up, once in the gorse beside the pillar there were only views NW to Bennachie. Spider intact.

On my way to Pitmedden for my first Highland League fixture, and as ever thought I'd do a little trig-hunting en route. First up was Contlaw, and a straightforward venture this proved to be. Parked directly south of the trig, and strolled up the east/right side of the field wall. Just a little 'gorse-brushing' to reach the pillar. No change since Jonglew's visit.

Verge parking on Contlaw Rd to S. Followed field boundary to hill top, trig located approx 10 metres E in dense gorse. Easiest to access it from the N... I did it from the S, through the gorse, not the most sensible idea! Pillar retains an original centre cap, deeply indented lettering; LHS sight hole open. No views.

Thought this would be easy! Abandoned car with hazards on, on Contlaw road. Headed up field on left side of fenceline to top corner, then read the previous log and realised it was in gorse. Climbed boulders and down to the other side of the wall, followed fence and wall along a few meters until I spotted the trig. The TUMP summit is called Beans Hill.
