Picked a sunny autumn day to walk onto the tops, but first traversed the moor from Fremington to Hurst collecting benchmarks. The day got better and better and once I'd reached the TP the sun was out with clear views up and down Swaledale. Continued east along the path to the road and followed the road into Fremington. Over 30 BMs searched for - an all day outing!

Made a decent circular walk of this starting at the the bottom of the track to the old mine workings, taking the left branch at the fork and heading SE till reaching the wall, following that up a gentle gradient and taking a bearing N across the heather till the pillar was found, returned to the wall and continued till we reached the mine workings track and followed it NE back to the van. Just over an hours walk and 3,6 miles on a clear but cool summer evening. Curlews in abundance!

Parked up in Reeth and hiked up Fremington Edge via the steep path from Arkengarthdale side. Along the ridge before nipping in towards the top of the moor for the pillar. Returned down the main Fremington Edge track to Fremington and back to Reeth.

Parked near the gate at the beginning of the footpath. Walked along the wall and then up through the burnt eares of heather. The views would have been superb across the dale, but all i could see was sheet rain.

Parked in Reeth and a steep climb up through the chert quarries at Fremington Edge. Walked SE along the ridge to this pillar. Smashing views to the north.

Slightly weathered and missing top plug. A short bit of heather bashing from the main track along Fremington Edge will get you to it. Great views of Lower Swaledale to be had.

nice easy walk across Fremington Edge with good views up Swaledale, the grassy track is a joy to walk on after the energy sapping slog over Booze Moor.

It's Christmaaaassssssssssss! A bright sunny but cold day having headed up from Grinton for a stroll along Fremington Edge and then circuit back over Calver Hill. Views better from the edge and the trig lay hidden behind a heather bank until nearly on top of it. Loads of red grouse laughing at me and scared big rabbits.

another moorland trig. Short distance from wide track, but theres no path to it. Someone has placed a stone ontop to hide the fact the plug is missing.

Walked up from Reeth, a village I have no great love for, but is handy for parking. Along Fremington Edge to the trig which is a pillar atop a rocky mound, adrift in a sea of heather. There appears to be no obvious path through the heather from the nice clear path beside the wall, so it was just a matter of crunching through the bones of the dead heather and then picking all the bits out of my boots afterwards. Pillar in good condition, fair location but nothing special.

Pillar surrounded by stones in heather moor. Would probably have been able to see Reeth and Swaledale had it not been so misty.
