Steep climb up to the trig but if you make it enjoy wonderful views over the Long Mynd and Stiperstones on the Wales-England border. You can start the walk from a parking area just north of the hill, near the Mitchell's Fold stone circle. From here it is a steep climb to the hill summit which stands at a height of 1,683 ft. The view from here is first class with the Shropshire Hills and Welsh Mountains stretching out in front of you for miles. On a clear day the Clee Hills, Severn Valley, Clwydian Hills, Cheshire Plain, Cadair Idris, the Rhinogs and the Black Mountains are all in focus.

Simple "in your face" ascent up the western slope on the north side of the wooded enclosure which has some new conifers growing in it now. 10 minute ascent to the pillar, bench and cairn (made of classic Corndon dolerite boulders). The pillar stands on the grassy summit of a hill to the north of Bishop’s Castle. I parked next to the covered reservoir on the bend in the minor road to the north west. I followed the track that spirals around the hill through the bracken to the shallow col to the south east of the summit. Most of the hill was grazed by sheep. A couple of giant puffballs were growing in the middle of the track. The pillar shares the summit with a small cairn and a bench. The corner of the fence of the former forestry plantation is nearby. The trig has a few minor chips from its top edge exposing the end of an arm of the spider. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S5203. To the north the Long Mountain rises up the other side of a valley; the Breiddens and higher, more distant mountains can be seen further on. Bromlow Callow and Greenfield are to the north east with the Shropshire Plain beyond. Stiperstones, the Long Mynd and more Shropshire Hills can be seen to the east and numerous hills and ridges of the Marches are to the south. A broad valley can be seen to the west and there are distant high moorland hills in the distance. The hill was descended by the direct, steep, knee jarring path to the north west. There is a large ancient cairn below the main summit and much of the hill has been designated a SSSI.

Enjoyed watching two hang gliders who kept 'crashing' into the hillside. Visited Mitchell's Fold ancient stone circle.

Visit after an orienteering event, where thankfully my course took me around the hill. Still got the stunted conifers, but no hang gliders today. Good views. Although in Montgomeryshire, Corndon Hill is traditionally lumped with the Shropshire Hills and is the start of the famous long distance walk to Clee Hills over all the 1500' hills.

An early start on the first of two occasions on which I completed the Six Shropshire Summits, of which this is the first although actually in Montgomeryshire.
