Safely tucked away in the TA centre which is open until 4pm weekdays. Shame I arrived at 4.30pm. Luckily one of the cars leaving the centre contained the quartermaster who very kindly offered to reverse back in and escort me to the trigpoint. The bank up to the trig is very slippy and a comment was made "don't slip or I'll have to fill out a form!". Well I am very very good at slipping so tried my hardest not to and managed it up and down in one piece!

Good condition 3rd May 2016  09:21  by Clochandighter

HISTORY: Pillar completed 15th May 1948 costing 5.9s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NO42/T8 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1971. Last maintainedby the OS in October 1981. SITE VISIT: Accessed with kind permission of TA centre staff. Main entrace to compound is on Dalkeith Road (to the west). After signing the visitors' book we were asked to be mindful of our own safety then made our way up to the pillar which is on a steep scrubby knoll to the SE of the third building in from the entrance. Column in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces southwest, ~226. Vented through NE sight hole. Limited views due to surrounding trees but still able to see through to Craigowl, Northfield and Peace Hill.

Made my way in from the south. Gates to the large building immediately south of the TA boundary fence was unlocked so could get to within 20 metres or so. Might be difficult to see even from here during the summer due to the undergrowth.

A eureka moment in a bagging session. Allowed escorted access by a medic who was leaving after a Sat morning training session. All intact at top of scrubby bank. Many thanks to medic facilitated access although was highly skeptical that a pillar did exist on site.

Unreachable but visible 1st May 1989  20:00  by Clochandighter

This one is securely fenced in on TA property in a built up area of Dundee. The TA property was unoccupied when I visited. I have returned from very few trig point visits recording 'unreachable but visible'. It is my normal practice to take access regardless. However, there have to be occasional exceptions, and this was one of them. This pillar is in an area which is overlooked by housing, so one cannot do what one might have done if this location had been out of sight or in the wilds. Property development on wasteground to east underway.

In Dundee on business. Sunday night stroll to find no direct access from any side. Intention was to record FB number but an overlooked security fence prevented this even though the pillar was just a few feet away. Viewed from adjacent wasteground (now flats) from east.
