I parked on Colley Lane and climbed over the barrier where the Quad Bike sign is. I visited before 10am as apparently this is when the quad biking starts. I followed the tracks until I found the pilar half obscured by bracken.

Staying in a cottage on the Ashcombe Estate, whose land this is - owner gave permission to access, but 'before 10am as the shooting and quad bikes begin then' - I hope not mutually adversarial! With a coat of white paint this trig would be perfect - metal cap, indented letters. Dull location however, but excellent views of the Exe estuary from the edge of the wood on a wonderfully sunny, if frosty morning; hares, lots of pheasants and a mad flock of guinea fowl!

After reading the notices nearer the road, I went along the forest tracks listening carefully for the sound of quads. Several times I heard the sound of motor bikes but I think they were back up on the road.

If, of course, you just happened to stop on the B3192 about 200m down from the roundabout, then just entered the woodland heading East, you wouldn't know that it was "Private" would you? You then turn left (yes left) on a track that brings you to letterboard C (see photo). Turn right there and follow the track to letterboard D. Turn left and follow the track to the fork. Bear left and the TP is about 50m down on your left. These woods are used by Ashcombe Adventures for outdoor pursuits. There are now many tracks bearing no resemblance to the map, so take a GPS or follow my directions (although I got lucky after 30 mins of looking with just an OS Landranger) Whether the woods really are private or not is unknown but I'm sure if you asked at Higher Charlwood Farm (GR 915785) they'd be happy to give permission. I can't understand how 'Hollowing' can justify a score of 8/10 when he didn't get anywhere near the trig, but I've given it 7 for the effort (and risk!) required to find it!

No access. This is located in a "private" woodland on top of Haldon. There is an access lane on the Dawlish Road, but the nearest point is on the B3192 (Between the A380 and Teignmouth).

Nice white pillar amongst heather, gorse, and rowan. Access by scrambling up through a birch wood, only to find the TP is on a well-defined path!
