Mr U2 parked at wrong spot and meant we had to walk along busy road, over fence and across field. Once at the trig I spotted the correct parking and gate into field. In hindsight should have parked at the surface block.

My second visit to this pillar. Since my first visit (10 March 2012) the fence along Devilís Dyke Road has been replaced. Access is now best gained from a gate opposite the small car park just before Devilís Dyke Road meets the A27. From the gate, turn right along a concrete track that follows the fence, and at some point bear off in the direction of the trig point. The field is currently not under cultivation, and is dotted with large piles of compost (not manure). The pillar is in good condition, complete with cap.

GOML note: Was about to approach trig squarely from the track inside the fence when shouted at from 4x4. Woman insisted I left her land immediately. Not wanting to cross barbed wire, negotiated return to gateway. Stood admiring view from the gateway for five mins. 4x4 watching me from 150m away. Interested in what would happen next, I walked up the verge towards Devils Dyke for 100m, and the 4x4 did awkward 3 point turn in the traffic. By then I had crossed the road and went behind trees. 4x4 was sitting where I had been. Wandered back to my car. 4x4 probably still there guarding her (grassy?) field.

Fence down near TP so easy to access, but it is rather exposed; it was a case of head down, a hop over the newish crops, and some quick photo's before returning to road. TP in vgc, with original plug. Should have been a good viewpoint - but it was a misty, murky day.
