First of 2 trigs on a 14.65 mile hike from Litton straight up the hill (not recommended) to Cow Close Fell trig then onto Fountains Fell, Pen-Y-Ghent, Plover Hill and back via Foxup and Halton Gill. Beautiful cold sunny day with little wind. Walk made possible by frozen ground.

Foggy circular walk. Parked at dalehead but could have parked where Pennine Way joins Silverdale Rd. Followed Pennine way crossed wall at top and swung left to gate at SD 87217204. Nice spot Followed Nth side of wall till a gate, then along the Sth side to the corner with the fence. Surprisingly good under foot (though wet). Erosion around the trig pt is striking. Followed wall / fence down to Dason Lose on good trod.

Altitude 628m. Trek up from Pen-y-ghent gill following the parish boundary - mist today so views we none existent. All sighting holes are open and I include a picture of the actual trig point. Surrounding ground very eroded.

Up the Pennine Way from the cattle grid to the NW till reached the stile and the twin cairns, from there followed walls with one easy fence hop required just before the trig is reached. Despite several valiant attempts this was the first pillar in ages Storm was unable to climb up onto without assistance! Fantastic weather, bone dry going underfoot, terrific views - what’s not to like?

Added it to an ascent of Fountains Fell. Arncliffe road was closed for resurfacing but managed to get as far as the Pennine Way junction. Along the road, then up the Pennine Way to the plateau. South to the Fountains Fell summit, then back and north along the wall to the pillar. Followed the wall straight down to join the bridleway back to the road, then along to the car. Beer in the Crown in Horton afterwards.

Good views, very high off the ground due to ground erosion but managed to climb to correct level. We reached it via Knowle Fell and Fountains Fell. Beautiful day.

Wasn't expecting this sight. The base below the pillar is all visible. Similar to peat tops of Cheviot. Clearly massive peat erosion. Spider core is intact.The hot sunny days continue. Wonderful views throughout as well as the limestone scenery give this a high score.

Started out from southwest of Rainscar via Pen-y-ghent, Plover Fell, Foxup and Nether Hesleden. Lunch stop by trig and return over Fountains Fell. Dry underfoot after dry spell of weather.

Parked near the farm entrance on the road as strate up as the crow flys good hill opens up the lungs abit 3 peaks to the top but then there she is in all her bueity standing tall on the eroded ground, we watched a paragliding man for a wile then headed back for s jam sandwich

From Tennant Gill to south, walked up to Fountains Fell first then across to here. Peat moorland has significant erosion leaving the trig high on its concrete foundations, all seems solid so assume the OS dug down to solid rock. Pillar has some superficial damage to screed on top surface; original centre cap retained, deeply indented lettering; all sight holes open. Extensive moorland views.

Also known as Darnbrook Fell. Noticeable peat erosion near column but the condition of the column is ok. Bagged as a 30-minute detour from Pennine Way path atop of Fountains Fell. Very dry underfoot, due to weeks of no rain, but normally a very boggy trudge from Fountains Fell.

Nice trig. Did it on a round bagging a couple of HEWITTS. Fountains fell and darnbrook fell. This trig is the summit of darnbrook. Fantastic weather clear blue skys. Good views towards pen y gent and beyond.

Continuation of walk from Litton, Foxup,Pen-y-Ghent, Fountains Fell. Accessed from the Pennine Way path and following afew walls in the direction of the trigpoint. Rather wet under foot. Excellent views from an elevated trigpoint due to the peat erosion around it.

From Litton, at first on track west from village going diagonally up fell, then beeline for the summit going up the west side of wall that roughly points at the trig. Boggy area around pillar fairly dry as lack of rain recently. Several golden plover peeping at us as we went past..

Walked up the Pennine Way and across and along the wall from the Stainforth - Littondale road. Back straight down the wall to the track from Littondale. Weather turned out better than forecast and the walk not too boggy ! Trig still standing despite considerable peat erosion. Great views of Pen-y-Ghent.

PW from Blishmire spent some time exploring Fountains Fell (mine shafts. summits. the tarn) before the trudge over to Darnbrook Fell and the perched Trig on Cow Close Fell what a sight it is well worth the effort, took easy route back down the fence line to join the excellent track coming up from Litton. number 2 of 3 for today

from litton up the fp then veered off up the slope,over a wall and a low wire fence at the top,pillar soon seen high up among the peat bogs.best pillar of my week,saw an owl and a deer up here,great views for miles!on the way down found a convenient gap onto the fp cutting out the need to climb any walls.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 8th September 1949 costing £40.2s.10d (£40.14). Computed as secondary triangulation station SD96/5 within the Skipton block during 1951. Levelled for height in 1953. Last maintained by the OS in July 1976. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from the west. Ample parking by sides of unfenced road around SD852723. Followed the Pennine Way to SD868719. Then followed quad tracks and boggy paths by walls along the NT boundary all the way to the pillar which stands around 15m north of boundary fence. Column in good condition but base exposed by over one metre due to peat erosion. Spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces east, ~80°. All four sight holes open, pillar bolt photographed.

Walked up from Horton in Ribblesdale Station on day off, gave it a 10 due to the arduous Hike up & the views stood on the top of concrete plinth. Don't think I have ever been so glad to reach a Trig, just glad I didn't try to do it in winter.I had a well deserved pint of Somersby cider in the Golden Lion before catching train home.

Long walk up Darnbrook Fell and Fountains Fell, trig sits amongst eroded peat hags. The pillar itself has the entire of its foundations exposed by the erosion, and stands almost a metre off the ground. Interesting to see.

Went up pw path to top of fountains fell,long slog through many bogs,Trig is 12 ft in the air,all its footings are exposed due to peat errosion,this one could topple in next few years.Trig in vgc with original plug all sight holes open centre stud on view.This one feels very remote fine views,make sure your boots are watertight and buy some gaiters if venturing to this one!This fell is also known as Darnbrook fell and is a Nuttall.

From Knowe Fell via Fountains Fell in a monsoon. Up to my thigh in a bog twice. Made the mistake of not keeping to the wall, trying to cross direct to the pillar from the SW. Don't do it. Left SE to the lane, again through many bogs. They call it summer! Trig balanced on pillar of exposed concrete. Another few years of peat erosion will see it topple

The mose exposed base I have ever seen I think. Came over from Fountains Fell. Wish I had taken note of MacHawks map before I left home. There is a very enthusiastic stone wall builder in the area who leaves no gaps and puts in few ggates or stiles. Made it eventually without disturbing his or her work. Took the decent to the north west eventually joining the track and then heading west back to the car.

First hill of the day was Fountains Fell in the snow. Trogged through the snow along the ridge to this trig. it stands a bit higher than the surrounding hill side which has washed away around its base. Views would of been better if the cloud had risen a bit more.

A fine pillar on large exposed plinth, which makes it difficult to photograph the spider, which is still intact. Low cloud, wind and rain made for a short visit only and no views at all today. Great lonely location, a little way off the beaten track.

vgc, metal cap, deep letters. Pillar on 1m concrete column left behind when the peat tide went out. Nice view. Nice patch of Mossy Saxifrage a little way N of summit at edge of peaty area. From NE, track W, gate, pasture. Started at 2130, trig in daylight, back before dark - isnt midsummer wonderful!

If coming from Fountains Fell there's no need to wall jump as there are gates to climb that avoid this - see attached map section. Very moist route today. It's Darnbrook Fell really. No cars, on foot!

nice walk over fountains fell from the trig on knowe fell keeping to the high ground all the way. the base of this trig is very exposed.
