The only conceivable reason for a landowner to want a trig pillar destroyed is to stop people like us from visiting. Pathetic. Such a shame but I'm pleased that the site of this pillar is still remembered and occasionally visited. Such a lovely area to hike in.

I parked in the lay-by for the view point at the top of the hill then walked a short distance back down the hill to the way marked PROW on the left. I followed it to the Ridge at the top and crossed the stile to the path that runs very close to the edge. It wasn't long before I saw the remains of the pillar. They really should get protected status to protect them from such needless destruction. The views back accross Glossop and the hills beyond are fantastic.

Parked on Monks Road. Took the path up to the summit of Cown Edge Rocks, where the remains of the pillar still lie in the crater left by the removal of the pillar. Simply cannot understand why the landowner would have wanted the pillar removed. Given how close the site is to the cliff edge, the land is completely unusable. An act of pure cultural vandalism and selfishness, which once again shows why pillars should have protected status.

A high score because of the superb views. A circular jaunt from Charlesworth via Coombes and Cown Edges. This area lives in the shadow of Kinder, but is well worth exploring and is very different from its cousin. The relatively new Peak District Boundary Walk (signed) runs past it. This trig is for the new "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme that's just been rolled out this month on M, T and W.

Weather turned grey, misty, then low cloud with rain all in the space of ten minutes, dampening the enjoyment of sarnies and tea. Back to Hayfield the weather cleared just as quick, with tremendous views, visiting 'Robin Hoods Picking Rod's' (strange wayside rocks) and a boulder of 'cup' art rock nearby.
