I pulled into a gateway some 60yds down from the trig. I assumed I'd need to get into the field but I was walking back along the road to find a gate I saw the top of the pillar in the hedgerow. Some nettle and bramble bashing later and I'd gained full access to it. No views to speak of.

Sad to relate but today a dead young deer lies directly in front of the pillar (FB side) presumably the result of road-kill, and has probably been there for some days judging by the awful stench. Therefore this was a necessarily quick visit: open cap, and couldn't determine the open/closed status of the sight-holes. The pillar seems to have sunk somewhat and the hedge has its full summer's dressing entangling the area and I'd no secateurs with me.

Unable to find this trig for some reason. Definitely(?) in the right place, checked out both sides of the hedgerow, but zilch. Very unsatisfying - need to re-visit on next trip to No 1 son in Bedford as it clearly exists reading other baggers posts. ***Revisited 12 Apr 2013. Couldn't find this a year ago, but easy spot today. Why? It seems my GPS indicates it's about 25m away from where it actual is and I didn't walk far enough along the hedgerow last year! Lessons learned. Pillar clearly visible from road, parking at field entrance approx 190m NE along minor road. Still sporting coat of grey paint. Brambles closing in and no secateurs with me so will have to leave it for someone else to keep it free from hedgerow. Front sight hole open, rest are below ground level. Cap missing, no plug. Some chipping to top edges. No views to speak of.

I've cycled past this trig twice before (the last time a few months ago) and it was completely buried in the hedge and not easily got to in cycling shorts! This time someone has cleared the trig and painted it a rather fetching shade of lilac! The plug is missing and the top is damaged, plus the rather haphazard lilac paint gets it a slightly damaged rating. There are actually reasonably decent views west from here when there isn't a crop in the field.
