From the large passing place NW of the cattle grid. Followed quad bike track along fenceline all the way. Excellent view. Continued on to Mid Hill trig.

Parked large passing place on Nick of the Balloch, took steep track starting ~90m NW at NX 3479 9242. Track morphs into a quad track and leads all the way to the trig. Pillar has multiple deep fractures and is begining to lose some surface screed, prob soon reclassified from Slightly Damaged to Damaged. Built without a flush bracket; one sight hole open, others sealed. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked in large passing place and headed up quarry road at NX34781 92433 and followed until road ended where I then followed a quad trail from here up and over Rowantree Hill and straight to the Trig. Once you have hiked up initial quarry road and then have located quad tracks, this is an easy walk. Superb views at summit of Ailsa Craig, the Galloway Forrest, the Merrick and Shalloch on Minnoch.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 17th June 1954 costing £35.4s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX29/7 within the Kirkcudbright block during 1955. Levelled for height value at pillar top also in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in May 1985. SITE VISIT: Pillar trunk riddled with cracks. Spider centre open, Allen screws reinstated. One sight hole open facing 51° NE. Spider leg perpendicular to a pillar edge points 141° SE. Great location. Loses a point for condition of pillar.

Cap gone, but Allen bolts in place! Pleasant clockwise round of Dewey tops. Oncoming rain limited views, but I got it dry till descending Haggis Hill. You'll notice my walking pole leaning nonchalantly against the trig: it's still there, I think.

well cracked bodily all over- start of worse stuff i would think- see pic. great views of the shalloch-merrick ridge.
