The trig is located North of the West Highland Way and West of Rob Roy Way about 2 miles out of Drymen. In order to get to it, I had to follow a track from the parking area in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and then going off-piste through the forest and over some scrub moor. I found that it's location was exactly as shown on the OS map. The top cap was missing and someone had tied a Minion fob to the Flush Bracket. Hmm.... The views from up here were fabulous and you can see Conic Hill in the distance left of the trig in the picture, which I later climbed heading for Balmaha. There are cracks in the trig substrate towards the bottom so logging it as damaged. Picture provided.

On the ground and map are two different things, lots of changes. Park in shown park North of Drymen. Out of car park and turn up new forest road to the right. Ascend 5 mins and as you emerge from mature trees into replanting area. Take the small path on the left where there are half a dozen tree trunks over the ditch. Through trees and emerge by large tree by fence on open hillside, pillar 100 yards along fence. Good views towards Loch Lomond south.

Dogs guard the pillar.

WHW#4: boy did we make a pig's ear of this, near divorce! Lesson 1: it can't be seen from the track as the vegetation has grown significantly. Lesson 2: if you therefore go too far and try to cut back across the brush it's a near leg breaking slog. Lesson 3: do not try to take a short cut back to the WHW via a fire break, equally leg threatening! That said, great all round views on a lovely sunny day. Centre open, but otherwise vgc.

Follwed new forestry extraction road up to NS 48162 90957 then cut across wilderness of logged trees directly to trig, located on boundary between heathland and what was the forest. Pillar found in good condition, but no cap or plug; LHD side sight hole open. 360deg panorama - Earl's Seat, Conic Hill etc.

Pillar is in very good condition with FB facing north-east-ish and the south-east-ish sighthole open only. Cap present with sunken lettering. Views very similar to Drumbeg...Loch Lomond, Duncryne, Duncolm, Auchenedin Hill, Campsies, Gargunnocks...As commented by Robin Hood, radical change up here! The forest area to the south and south-east of the pillar has been totally removed opening the views right up to the south and east. Well worth a revisit for anyone. The new route starts at the horse box car park at NS479906 then head up the first right-hand road. When you reach NS4816290984 cross the ditch and just head straight for the pillar across the brash. Fairly easy going.

All present and correct, SouthEast sight open, whitewashed out with moss growing along the minor crack that runs around the lower southern faces. Neat view West towards the bottom of Loch Lomond - well earned after following the recent highway that has decimated a path through the forest then schlopping through swampy avenues and crashing my way due south back to the WHW. All worth meeting Mario on his Cancer walk from Milan to John O-Groats - Forza Mario! :D
