With yesterday's trig at Hownam Law visible in the distance and our slightly pointless (in the cloud) next trig at Windy Gyle up ahead somewhere there's a great sense of travelling on these broad wild swards, marked out by old lichened border stones.

From Belford. A sign near the phone box requests that walkers park at the cattle grid. Walked along lane past Hallburn to the open-sided shed then headed up a spur of the hill to the top. The magnificent view towards the border ridge is a mirror image of the view from Bloodybush Edge, which just peeps over the ridge.

Plenty of parking at Hownam, unfortunately we had to take a long detour as the bridge at Howgate was closed for repair. Decent tracks all of the way to the pillar and good views. The storm clouds that followed us from the west passed by to the south which was a bit of luck. Think perhaps that the route from the Calroust road to the east might be easier.

Parked at Greenhill farm and came up via The Street. Mostly easy going, suspected good views but too misty to tell at nine a.m. On to Lamb Hill via the Pennine Way, which took two hours.
