Parked at double gates which opened, could have driven up to within 90m of trig on a good track which isn't marked on the map, think it's a plot for a new house. 1 locked gate to climb and 90m through grassy boggy field to skirt gorse and bag trig.

Revisit for updated photographs and GPS reading. Approached from south. Parked in road end car park in Newtonhill. Followed mapped footpath until it meets with farm track, then a random route through gorse to top. Rough grazing ground. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre plug with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces northwest, ~319. All four sight holes open, innards filled with debris. 360 open outlook from trig.

Over the railway bridge and parked at farm gate (plenty of space) & took the track up to the top of Cran Hill where the pillar is nicely set within gorse bushes with the sea beyond. Pillar in good condition, cap remains in place with stamped lettering, and all sight-holes open.
