(3210) Handy parking for a couple of cars at the scout hut/entrance to country park. Short walk from there to block. Area overgrown but nothing insurmountable. Block covered over but probing soon located it. All good.

1" bolt 2m from fence. Spotted depression. in line with scout sign left hand end disk (2nd Daventry) looking at from road.

Parking at scout hut entrance 20m or so S of the trig. Wasn't sure this would be findable given growth of the hedgerow, but was surprisingly easy - perhaps luck played its part. 1" bolt in conc. block as per OS sketch.(partially).

2m from fence, 17m from manhole cover as per sketch, but dimension from lamp post #66 no longer works. 19 m from north edge of scout car park entrance. Approx in line with left post of scout hut sign as you face away from road. Was four inches down, left exposed at back of verge. Found more easily than the berntsen: I'm an engineer, I can do dimensions even if one is wrong! 1" bolt in block

It should be noted that the diagram kindly provided by the OS is out of date.... the fence with the posts they so meticulously counted for guidance, is no longer in existence. If anyone is going to find this thing, its going to have to be using measuring tapes from the lamp post and telegraph pole to triangulate. There is a new railing where the fence once was. We also have to consider the possibility that it has been removed during the building work.

Building and landscaping work completed. 2nd Daventry Scout Group Building. Gave up after long day trigpointing.

The whole area had been turned over, and I wondered if the block had survived. To start I had no joy, then I realised in counting the posts on the OS plan, they did NOT include the intermediate supports. Having sorted that out, I found it relatively easily prodding with my tent peg as it was buried following all the ground disturbance. I left it clear.

A mixture of luck an intuition led me to this one. I had the GPS with me which got me to the general location but not the OS map. After searching for a while I noticed two red painted marks on the nearby fence posts and thought this may me OS markings. I therefore began to walk towards the road half way between the two posts and my food sunk into a small hole. I dug for a while and there was the bolt a meter or two from the fence.
