The castle is a Grade I listed monument, it dates to William the Conqueror with the first stone buildings erected by Henry II between 1165 and 1179. The Flagstaff sits atop the turret on the round keep. Conquer the Tower tours usually run during Aug/Sep, but do not allow access to the turret.

The flag was flying today so she was at home.

Flagstaff there but no flag flying. This means the castl occupier is not present (probably away at Balmoral since this is the normal pattern of movements in August).
