Parked at road junc to SW. Took a near enough direct line up over rough ground, initially following a rubbish track recently bulldozed across the hillside, crossing the fenceline at NH 6485 9214. Pillar is vgc albeit with no top cap, but an asphalt plug seals the central tube. At least 2 sight holes are open. Constructed without a FB.

Parked at the sheep pens to the WNW of the trig. Followed the marked track to near Loch a Ghobhair then turned south. Ascended a minor top then on to the trig. No FB as per a lot of Ross-shire/Sutherland trigs. Good views all round but a bit dull and hazy. Descended SW to the minor road to make a round of it. With Nozzer.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 13th June 1955 costing £39.6s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NC60/13 within the Lairg block during 1956. Levelled for height to top of pillar also in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in May 1988. SITE VISIT: Sutherland. Approached from southwest. Parked NE side of road in widened length just west of forest entrance at NH656913. Followed mapped forest tracks east for ~350m then NW until roughly in line with car then straight up slope to summit. Deep ferns and rocky outcrops made this a challenge. Pillar in good condition. Built without flush bracket. Spider centre filled with tar. Spider leg perpendicular to a pillar edge points southwest, ~209°. Vented through NW and NE sight holes. Full 360° panoramic view.

Built without FB, asphalt plug, vgc. Heather summit, fine view. From WSW, straightforward but deeeeep heather, and a little gorge to avoid. Also visited the 340m Yeaman summit.
