Altitude 255m. Parked up at the reservoir at the start of a benchmark hunt and called in on this on my way past.

Active station is still present, excluded from the compound. The Leica dome is somewhat discoloured. Overcast, breezy day but remaining dry. A few days ago, a BBC weather forecast mentioned the temperature at Shap. This met station would be where the reading originated from.

Accidentally came across this whilst taking a walk around the reservoir as a break from the M6, saw it coming over the bridge and instantly smiled.

Easy find behind MET office compound

Like others before me, I am surprised it isn't in the Met Office compound. Its exclusion makes it easy peasy to get up close and inspect....instead of peering from street corners or multi storey car parks (Carlisle & Newcastle). I am giving today's quarry to the triggers who went out today. It is Xmas day!!!

A special trig for so many reasons. First visit to Cumbria since Feb, glorious stormy skies, first sundew of the year having missed out on Scotland in April, the ghost of Richard Griffiths up on the hillside with the concrete ring above and also a hello to Tebay services. A handsome, rugged, difficult place.

Dull location. As others have said, is surprisingly accessible.

By the road out to Wet Sleddale. I can hardly thing of a better name for somehere in this part of the British Isles: Wet Sleddale! The station sits by a compound but on the outside, so more accessible than these contraptions normally are.

Modern hi-tech device, very easily accessible for a change. First of six different species of trigs today, introducing non-trig friend to the world of trig-spotting. So he got to see an active station, a rivet, an FBM, a (very special) pillar; a curry stool and a concrete ring.
Shap The active station.
Shap Techie stuff.

En-route to Triggers Weekend in Comrie. Short distance (by car) from M6 junc 39. In pasture, oddly located behind a Met Office compound and not in it!

En route to the west Lakes today anyway - this was on our list too! Definitely has four legs (quad pod). Very recent installation but surprisingly located outside the Met Office compound which, in itself, has been very recently mown. Cable from active station runs into Met Office compound presumably to comms readings via microwave located on adjacent mast.
