Having studied Aqueously90s log, I decided to take a route from Bridge of Brown past Mains of Glenlochy and Tomlay to the ruin and then to try and find the track that took the boundary line and the Allt Mor or March Burn to the trigpoint. My heart sank when I got out of the car at the phone box and the GPSr said 3.6km, Charlie has not been well lately and I thought we may be undertaking too big a journey! All ok to ruin, then the going got a little rougher and ended up in quite high heather and it was very hot, Charlie was really struggling. After the gate we went down to the burn for a cool off and headed up to find the path at the boundary line. Nae path and at this point Charlie did his very odd howling and barking which we think is 'I'm not doing this anymore'. We still had about 1.2km to go but we'd come so far. So after a quick phone call to Mr TJR, I decided to take a very slow route straight up carrying Charlie, took over an hour to do the rest of the journey. Surprised to see an off road motorbike at the ridge line, had a good chat to the rider and took in the stunning views. He told me the memorial cairn used to have a log book to sign but it's gone missing, a real shame as it had over 30 years of visitor comments in it!. Off back down the hill to meet Mr TJR who'd brought the doggy rucksack so Charlie could be carried in style off the hill.

Log #178. Solo round of the Cromdales, west-to-east. Parked at Balcorach and walked along the road to Milton. Followed the track until it petered out, roughly on same contour line as the wee bothy. From there, a faint quad track leads up to the shoulder of Carlag. It was a little bit boggy between Carlag and the pillar, but not bad at all. The pillar is in good condition, except for the chunks missing where someone has tried to chisel out the FB. The cap is gone and has been plugged. The *huge* cairn totally overshadows the trig pillar, and can be seen from a substantial distance. Continued onto 'Cromdale' (aka Carn a Ghille Chearr) via a faint track that follows the Highland/Moray border. [ExP-147/MiP-3/Rev-2/BM-11/IS-12/Other-3]

A lovely circular walk from Ballcorach car park NJ155265. first along the road until Milton and then follow the Westerly path as you climb the hill then across a gradual incline up to 722m. This Trig point is part of the Hills of Cromdale which also hosts the Jubilee Cairn. on the way down traverse North East towards the Coronation Cairn on An Sgoran before rejoining the path near Knock Burn to return to the carpark. A 9-10 mile walk, moderately strenuous.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 5th June 1953 costing 22.3s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ06/34 within the Nairn block during 1956. Levelled for height also in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in July 1976. SITE VISIT: Parked on SE verge opposite entrance to Wester Rynaballoch at NJ107287. Followed track from NJ105286 making straight for the ridge via NJ115273. Bagged in conjunction with neighbouring S7481. Pillar in fair condition, sound structure but a worthless being has caused damage by attempting to steal the flush bracket. Thankfully they failed. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces 127 (SE). Vented through NE and SE sight holes. Splendid 360 panorama includes Cairngorms to Sutherland.
