Approached from Tarbert side using the Kintyre way trail to Skipness. Over the peat bogs to the trigpoint. Cloudy views but this is a great viewpoint over to Arran, Kintyre, Gigha, Islay, Jura, Loch Fyne and Cowal.

Cold chill in the air this morning after the warm conditions of the last week, but it also brought along a stunning clearness of the air and we were treated to some really gorgeous bright blue sky views all around from here.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 18th October 1955 costing £61.3s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS04/6 within the Isle of Arran block during 1956. Levelled for height also in 1956. Last maintained by te OS in July 1982. SITE VISIT: Parked in entrance to mapped tracks at NR839606. Followed RHS track which is hard standing for the first 500m. The route becomes a rougher track with managable boggy crossings, eventually becoming a feint footpath albeit still mapped on older maps. The path finishes before the end of the woods but a sharp left at NS852621 leads to the open hill. Remember this route for your return journey! Heading northeast, aim for the highest point and the summit of Cnoc a' Bhaile-shois, crowned with the trig becomes visible. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised larger narrow letters. Flush bracket faces SSW, ~210°. Vented through NE sight hole. Full 360° panorama with long views.

On Cnoc a' Bhaile-shios, a rather rough hill. Very clear day with views to the bigger Argyll hills in the north, across the central belt and north coast of Ireland - all the way to Inishowen.
