From station to south, mapped path thru' woods from NN 3121 0460. After crossing stream, first 100m north has been felled leaving brash. Once in wood, open and easy to walk thru' - path indistinct. Leave wood NN 31181 05160 for good path wending thru' tussocks and bracken to top. Nice walk once path found - mostly on return!

From the railway station, good track leads up through forest. Logging operations until Dec 2018 has closed the track but no-one around today. Pillar retains an original top cap, raised lettering; front and rear sight holes open. Extensive panoramic views.

Log #405. Originally planned to walk up from Tarbet station, but was told off by a local for using one of the parking spaces. Apparently the Forestry Commission has a notice on their website saying to park in Arrochar for Cruach Tairbeirt, and I hadn't done the necessary research. She backtracked after I apologised, and said it would be OK if I came straight back down again, but I'd cut my nose off by that point and drove to Succoth, where I reluctantly paid my quid for parking. There is a small signpost for "Main Trail" opposite the Arrochar chippy, and once you are roughly on the shoulder of the hill you'll see a rough track directly opposite a bench (great view). I thought I was going the wrong way for a while, as the track takes you into the glen, but you'll see a faint quad track to your right which leads you through the forest. Very enjoyable here, needing some concentration and observation skills to pick the right route. Once you get out of the trees, it's pretty straightforward. The trig is still white-washed, and offers fantastic panoramic views - A'Chrois ridge, the Cobbler just peeking over Narnain and Cruach nam Miseag, The Brack, Loch Long, Ben Reoch, Loch and Ben Lomond, Inversnaid, Ben Vorlich and the Wee Hills, Loch Sloy and the dam, Ben Vane. Good condition, cap with raised lettering intact, and a piece of quartzy (no geologist) rock on top. Cracking drive back along the Loch Long road to Faslane (ugh), Rhu (lovely), Helensburgh (grim). Vgc pillar atop prominent hill. FB faces south-ish, with south-ish and north-ish sightholes open and clear through. Bolt visible. Cap present with raised lettering. Pillar still white-ish, but fading. Superb 360 views to taller neighbours and down both lochs Lomond and Long. Parked at station and took quite possibly the most bizarre route up and a more conventional one down.....
