Parked large area at end road - NH999611 (CP 1 hour for £1 or 3 hours for £1.50). Good biking to very near the top if so inclined. Magnificently restored fire tower - good views of forest, forest and forest!

Would be tricky (homogeneous forest) but main tourist trail runs right past it so dead easy.

'Shinrin-yoku'. I parked up in the Wellhill car park (£1.50 for 2 hours) and pretty much followed the well signposted Hill 99 walk to the viewing tower. The pillar is very near to this and has its FB and spider in place although no cap. Still some white paint apparent. No real views from the pillar but good views over the forest canopy from the tower. Don't miss the tree planted by Harold Wilson in 1969!

Had a second breakfast here on a bikepacking trip along the Moray Firth south coast. On sandy soil in a well visited spot in pine woods.

I started from the very convenient (albeit pay and display) car park at Wellhill. Best to ignore both the OS map and the sketch map on the car park info board and just follow the well signed Hill 99 trail in either direction. Delightful pine forest and sand dunes. Excellent viewing tower close to trig point.

Been here before trig bagging but back for a photo call and a nice dog walk, great view from the tower, trig well worth a second or third visit!

Log #56. Quite a nice walk following the Hill 99 trail. Car park charge is £2 for the day. Viewpoint next to the trig is worth a quick visit. Trig is in good condition, although cap is missing. [ExP-54/MiP-0/BM-2]

Visited during the tail end of a hurricane so didn't bother climbing adjoining tower. All the trees were fairly moving!

A relatively easy visit. parked in the Visitor car park (pay and display) and used the forest trails to reach the pillar. Pillar is in good condition although it has lost its plug and nothing to replace it. Some lovely views from the adjacent viewpoint.

Visited yet again on a regular Culbin route heading North on the way to the sea shore and then East to Findhorn Bay before returning to the car park. Came across work party making "all abilities" track that will go part of the way up the hill to the Trig point. They will also be building a new look out tower close to the Trig and so at last there will be views to see. The work should take about 3 weeks.

Once again the logged time is an estimate as site has been down for ages. Anyway as usual I have Taken the long way around for this as took ages to get there (was for exercise really) however it was worth it as always. Trees block most views at the Trig

vgc, no cap or plug, by sandy track at summit, in fine pinewood, somewhat linear view. A few more tracks than mapped, and signboard at car park gets the layout a bit wrong

HISTORY: Pillar completed 26th June 1956 costing £50.1s.2d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ06/17 in 1956, the final addition to Block NJ06, Nairn. Levelled for height in 1973. Last maintained by the OS in April 1988. SITE VISIT: On a sand dune in a large forest planted to defeat land erosion by the sea. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open, but Allen screws still in situ. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~255°. NW sighting hole open, others plugged. No views except aspect along fire breaks either side of pillar. The sheer beauty of the place more than makes up for the lack of views. Popular waymarked forest even midweek.
