Munro no.134. A walk up Gleann Fionnlighe and then a steep pull, albeit relatively speedily up a zig-zagging path. The cylindrical trig stands on the south top and could easily be mistaken for the actual summit of Gulvain in mist. This lies along an entertaining ridge which today was cloud covered

HISTORY: Pillar completed 4th June 1958 costing 22.5s.11d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NG80/DM/25 within the Fort William block during 1959, by distomat surveying methods. Levelled for height also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in July 1978. SITE VISIT: Approached from SSW. Parking for several cars on line of old road at NM959794. Up via mapped estate tracks through Glen Fionnlighe to NM991842 and straight up steep SSW ridge of hill to trig. Vanessa in fair condition, minor damage to top and overall weathering to trunk surface. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces due south, ~180. Vented through three sight holes, eastmost plugged, pillar bolt visible. Spectacular full 360 panorama includes striking aspect of Ben Nevis. Continued a further mile NE from the trig to bag the true Munro summit, Returned via outward journey which involved reclimbing the trigged top.

Top a bit damaged with spider ends exposed, Vanessa, no cap or plug. Lovely graceful catenary ridge. From Fassfern, along ridge to Druim Fada trig, Graham-top-bagged my way N across 2 valleys then back via Gulvain and Aodainn Chleirig. Hadn't bothered to check the total ascent beforehand - 2500m - took a while...
