Had to be in the area for a Charity Garden Tour and pub visit so managed to fit in this TP. Gate on the Cumblands Farm Track was closed so squeezed the car onto the grass verge and walked up to the Farmhouse. No sign of life at the farm, and some campers who were mooching around in the field confirmed no one home so we just went through the gates to the field and up to the top of the field and used my OS app to locate the pillar in all the brambles. Fortunately field was bone dry after little rain of late. Used secateurs to clear all the brambles, cleared the FB and managed to touch the top of the pillar. Cows in the field kept their distance. Beer in the Pennington Hotel at Ravenglass afterwards.

Parked at Bell Hill Farm (SD 0821 9805), took a RoW to Cumblands Farm where I knocked and asked - permission readily given. Pillar sits on a low field boundary embankment, between stock fences and being subsumed into gorse and bramble. Centre cap missing, asphalt plug; FB faces NW; rear sight hole open, others not checked.

HISTORY: Pillar completed September 1949 costing £9.11s.11d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY11/T13 in 1952. Levelled for height also in 1952. last maintained by the OS in November 1976. SITE VISIT: Parked SW side of A595 beside electricity substation at SD088983. Followed adjacent bridleway into farmland. Some localised gardening was necessary for photography. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Note, the flush bracket faces 309° (NW) so it is important to approach from that side due to the thick gorse boundary lines. NW plugged sight hole plugged, others buried. Views upward to many Lake District Fells, and out to sea.
