Easy access up the wide track from the B979. As I neared the top, a heron arose right in front of me and floated languidly away in a soundless, graceful flight. Soon I was within those slightly sinister, quietly whirring 'sentinels', to find the pillar within its heathery setting. Pillar has a cap with raised lettering, and two s/h's were open.

5km round trip as the crow flies, made very easy due to wind farm track to turbine 7. Really hoped to spot some sled dogs on my return journey but alas not today!

Most of the route was on the new windfarm road. Pillar in good condition. Spider has replacement OS centre cap with raised small narrow letters. Flush bracket faces ESE, ~109. Vented through NE and SW sight holes, innards filled with debris. Full 360 panoramic view from trig.

vgc, metal cap, small raised letters. Heathery summit, decent view. From SSE, Dykenook (as it is called on the ground), good track at first, then a tussocky marsh to cross which I guess might be skirted by keeping E of the beeline.

Trig pillar in good condition. The spider has a replacement OS centre plug with raised lettering. Flush bracket faces east. On a deep heather clad top amongst a series of similar knolls. Impossible to find in a pea souper as I found the previous week. Visited and photographed 15/08/2000, GRP.
