Parked by the cattle grid, surprised to find the flag up, but decided to ignore it being a Saturday and New Year's Eve. Flag by the trig was down so all ok. Pillar has some chunks of concrete missing from the LHD face - shot up? Original cap is retained, indented lettering; rear sight hole open. No views today as cloud firmly down on the hill.

Parked at the cattle grid to the E and walked up the road. Despite the red flag flying this was definitely a non-firing day. I confirmed this with a group of squaddies at the Drovers Arms earlier in the day,

Website said it was a non-firing day though the flag was flying. Met a couple of soldiers in a white landrover who were setting up an orienteering course for visiting cadets. "They won't be so happy when they're out here in the rain tonight!" Second of three on and slightly off the Epynt Way. Not as shot up as the pillar on Drum Ddu but still visibly damaged.

Red flag was up but I took my chance and cycled directly to the trig anyway. Visibility was terrible (less than 50m) but all seemed quiet on the range. Will have to come back another time to do some of the Eppynt Way.

Went to this one in good faith as the flag wasn't flying, got to pillar and it looked like the flag was blown down rather than taken down! Explosions and gunfire accross the hill meant i beat a hasty retreat.Obviously the ranges are still used on Bank Holidays!

Review and return to work out the exact danger area bound before another visit. Highly visible in the snow though
